You would be hard pressed to find a top competitive athlete who doesn't have sweet potatoes on his/her daily menu. Along with their delicious taste, these spuds are too nutritious to pass up. Helmut Strebl, the world's most shredded man, has made sweet potatoes a staple of his diet. During Lee Haney's prime, the 8-time Mr. Olympia bodybuilder relied on sweet potatoes for their anabolic effects. It stands to reason that is veggie should be included in every nutritious eating plan.

Sweet potatoes are a great source of beta-carotene, potassium, phytonutrients, fiber, manganese, copper and pantothenic acid. Plus, they have vitamins, A, C and B complex. The fiber and some of the nutrients help in regulating blood sugar levels. This helps in weight loss. Phytonutrients aid in reducing inflammation.
